Mike and I can't believe little O is already 5 months old.. and I can't believe I only stopped to take pictures of him two days in the last month. I am ashamed. I'm so sorry. I could delve in to a long list of excuses, but I will spare you. Nonetheless, I'll share what I do have, and I will promise to be better @ 6 months.

Here is a little hint at his sweetsie smile and adorable little laugh. Unfortunately, those giggles are still rather unpredictable, so I haven't yet been able to catch it on camera. We still have to work very hard for the giggles, and I will do close to anything to get one. All Mike has to do is smile at Owen and he's all giggles. The delineation of our roles has begun.. Mommy has the food, Daddy has the fun. Owen absolutely loves Mike's hats, songs, cuddles, and loves. I absolutely love watching them together.

I had to put this picture in here because I think he looks just like Mike here. I also want to point out that this 6 month outfit is almost to short for his legs but is absolutely huge in the midsection. This little man is going to have to stand twice to make a shadow.

So chill. Hand on the arm rest, drool spilling out of his mouth. Life is so good. Wishes he didn't have to still be in long sleeves at the end of May.

Owen and Amity. This was just last weekend, so it's fairly recent. Amity has finally opened her eyes, and we are so glad she's ready to play! This is the first picture we've taken of them where she was awake! Owen, of course, is playing with his favorite toy.. his feet. If I place him on his back (which is very rare outside of a diaper change), he's trying to get those feet in his mouth!

I love how red his hair looks in this picture. Speaking of hair, Owen constantly has his hands on his head, moving his fingers back and forth, rubbing his head. We get the biggest kick out of it. Occasionally, those fingers will drift down to his ears which he finds so fascinating that he won't let go of them. He has a death grip on those ears, and I usually have to help pry them loose.

Additional Owen updates:
- He discovered Oskee, and he watches her everywhere she goes. Her barking cracks him up too.
- Owen has also discovered his voice has volume. He frequently tries out his loud voice.. we aren't quite to pterodactyl screeching, but we aren't far away either.
- He loves to sing songs. 'The wheels on the bus go round and round' goes round and round our house daily. If you move his legs round and round while you sing, he just might give you a giggle.
- He is also loving sitting forward facing in the Baby Bjorn. I'm quite impressed, if I do say so myself, that I've got our afternoon walks down to a science. Owen sits forward in the Bjorn which allows me both hands to walk Oskee. We are training her, so I need to be able to 'pop' the training collar. Fun times are had by all of us! He coos and kicks the entire time.
- Sleep update: We are sleep training him this week. Monday night while I was at class, Mike let him cry it out. He cried for an hour on Monday, 20 minutes on Tuesday, and 1 minute on Wednesday. Once he learned he could self soothe, he hasn't been squawking for us every hour. This weekend we are working on increasing the time intervals between his night feeds. He used to eat every three, and we've progressed all of the way to 4.5 hours between. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

I think that's it for now. I promise I will be better about pictures next month.. and I still owe some posts from his first Cardinal game and meeting mommy's best Mizzou friends!

With LOVE from all of us Wades, M, H, O, and O

Owen and I have spent the last 12 Tuesday mornings at our PEPS (Program for Early Parental Support) group. It's just a mommy group with a bunch of adorable little boys all born between December 12 and Feb 6. Our official group ends tomorrow, but we really hope to continue to meet at least once a month! This group has been a great forum to talk about the trials of first time motherhood as well as ideas about the appropriate stages of development (starting solids, baby sign language, etc). It's also given me a wonderful perspective. Owen is certainly not the most difficult baby in the group, and he isn't the only terrible sleeper either (on that note, he's been up every hour for the last 2 nights.. maybe something is wrong?)

We took these pictures a few weeks ago, and I couldn't help but share them.
L-R: James (12-19), Clive (2-1), Owen (12-27), Jack (2-6), Kyle (12-21), Will (12-12)

This picture also features a very unhappy Luca (2-3). Not pictured are Ben (1-10) and Madden (1-20). ALL BOYS!

Ring around the rosy. James like to hold hands, and Owen (of course) loves to kick. Luca is a little happier here it seems!

Hopefully we'll keep posting pictures of this crew for years to come!

Christ the Lord is Risen Today..

Ok, well He rose 3 weeks ago.. but it's still worth celebrating! I wanted to document a few pictures of Owen's first Easter. We woke up and went to Easter service @ Church of the Shepherd, Papa and Gaga Wade's church. The service was nice, and they sang our favorite song! "Christ the Lord is Risen Today!" Indeed He is, and there is much to celebrate! Owen was a GREAT baby and slept on Grandma Cooper's shoulder through the entire service.

Then we came back to Papa and Gaga Wade's house and had a delicious brunch with some of Mommy's favorites (breakfast casserole, monkey bread, and fruit salad) with the Nieders clan.

Next we went to Papa and Grandma Cooper's house for Easter Dinner (another round of amazing food: ham, potatoes, asparagus, bread, chocolate pie... ) Owen coordinated well with Grandma and Papa Cooper!

We were very pleased that Owen did not follow his daddy's first Easter footsteps. Mike fell down stairs and broke his arm. We were grateful not to repeat that!

they call me Dr. Wade...

I passed my 'Final Exam/Doctoral Defense/Capstone Presentation'... whatever you want to call it... it's now a distant memory for me! Well.. I do have some tweaking to do to my paper, but that shouldn't be a problem. Soon, I will be an alum of the University of Washington. Thanks to all of you for your support, here's to June 10 (the official graduation day!)

Now, if I could just figure out how the baby boy and I can sleep.

Love you all! xoxox

This post is dedicated to Britt, please see her hilarious stand up in the above link. She deems newborns a 'bendy' (Mike's new favorite adjective). I am here to tell her that they remain quite bendy at 4 months too!

As you can see, Owen has discovered his toes. At diaper change time, he loves to try to get them all of the way into his mouth.

SO much easier with the diaper off! Mike has been trying this trick as well, and it's not going well. I think he pulled a hamstring. Apparently the bendy-ness wears off somewhere between 4mo and 30 years...

Owen had his 4 month check today. Here's the stats:
Height: 26 inches (90%)
Weight: 13lb 12 oz (25%)
Head: 16 1/4 in (25%)

Her only sleep suggestions were those we've already tried. She thinks he probably actually is hungry in the middle of the night since he's just a peanut. No solids yet for us as breastmilk has the most dense calories...she thinks that will help the sleep in the long run and suggested we actually go back to feeding more frequently during the day! I am hoping the 4 month round of shots will knock him out for a good stretch tonight.. and I am going to monopolize on this opportunity. Good night!
